Food Handling Tips
Best for a long time
If eggs have been kept refrigerated, they can be eaten for a short time after the Best Before date. However, keep in mind that the Best Before date (28-42 days from the packaging date) indicates the length of time the eggs will maintain their Grade A quality. After the Best Before date, eggs should be cooked thoroughly (for example, used for baking or hard cooking).
Nutrition Fact
Adjusting cholesterol levels
The cholesterol level in your bloodstream does not directly increase from eating the cholesterol in food. A study by the prestigious Harvard School of Public Health demonstrated that eggs actually do not have a negative effect on blood cholesterol levels. This study also found no significant link between eating eggs and developing cardiovascular disease in healthy individuals. In fact, for most people, the best way to reduce blood cholesterol is to cut down on the consumption of saturated fats and trans fats. A large egg contains only 1.5 grams of saturated fats and no trans fats. So go ahead, enjoy eggs every day!
Hint: To determine if a food contains trans fat, check the ingredient list for hydrogenated oil.
