Egg Farming

Who We Are

We are the farmers from coast to coast who provide you with fresh, quality eggs every day at your local grocery store. Taking care of our flocks is our number one priority. Sure our livelihoods depend on it but more importantly, we are deeply committed to taking the proper care of our animals. We are over 1,000 farm families caring for 20 million hens and we are found across the Canadian countryside. Our farms are of various sizes. Some of us operate our farms on our own while others hire farm workers to help out. Whether our farms are large, small or somewhere in between, our goal is to provide affordable and nutritious eggs while taking good care of our animals and respecting the environment. Most of us are second or third-generation farmers and our hope is to do for our children what our parents did for us: leave a healthy sustainable farm and build upon our agricultural heritage to create a bright future.

As regulated egg farmers, we are represented by a national organization called Egg Farmers of Canada (EFC). EFC is responsible for projecting the amount of eggs needed by Canadians, for promoting eggs and for developing national standards for egg farming. The members are made up of egg farmers from each of the provinces and the Northwest Territories, a representative from the Consumers’ Association of Canada and three representatives from the Canadian Poultry and Egg Processors Council. The Board meets five or six times a year to review financial statements, establish strategic direction and receive updates from its employees.

The Board establishes committees to review and offer advice on various matters overseen by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The four-member Executive Committee meets frequently to ensure the Board direction is being followed.

In addition, EFC holds an Annual General Meeting during which the audited financial statements are presented. At this time, our Chair and CEO summarize the achievements and challenges from the previous year and offer insights for the coming year.

As egg farmers, we’re proud to provide you with a choice of the best quality eggs possible from flocks that are well cared for and that have been produced in a way that respects the environment. We remain committed to continuous improvement. That is our commitment to you, to our communities and to our children’s future.
