One of the most popular ways to dye Easter eggs is using hollow eggs—eggs hollowed out by a needle. However, hollowed eggs can be fragile and should be handled carefully.

Things You'll Need

  • Eggs
  • Needle
  • Bowl

Instructions

  • Step 1

    Wash and dry an egg.

  • Step 2

Using a large needle, pierce both ends of the shell. Make sure you pierce the needle deep enough to break the egg yolk.

  • Step 3

Wiggle the needle around in a circular motion to open the hole at one end of the egg.

  • Step 4

Holding the egg over a bowl, blow into the large opening at one end of the egg to force the egg white and yolk out of the egg. Gently rinse off the shell with cold water; allow it to dry completely. Note that if the eggs aren’t dry, the colours may run or bleed into each other.
