Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Ham and Eggs

Grilled ham and egg sandwiches elevate the classic grilled cheese. Swiss cheese melts perfectly between layers of scrambled eggs and Black Forest ham. Cooking the eggs until just set keeps them tender inside the sandwich. A quick turn in a hot skillet transforms everyday ingredients into a satisfying meal that's ideal for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
- 5 eggs
- 2 tbsp (30 mL) milk (1%)
- ⅛ tsp (0.5 mL) pepper
- 8 slices Italian or multigrain bread
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 4 slices lean Black Forest ham
Instructions
- Step 1
Whisk eggs, milk, and pepper in small bowl.
- Step 2
Spray non-stick skillet with cooking spray. Heat skillet medium heat.
- Step 3
Pour in egg mixture. As eggs begin to set, gently move spatula across bottom and side of skillet to form large soft curds. Cook until eggs are thickened and no visible liquid egg remains.
- Step 4
Divide scrambled eggs evenly between four slices of bread. Top with one slice of cheese, one slice of ham, and a second slice of bread.
- Step 5
Spray skillet with cooking spray. Heat skillet over medium heat. Add sandwiches, in batches if necessary; cook until golden brown on both sides and cheese is melted.
Tips
If you have a panini grill, cook sandwiches with the lid closed until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted.
