Monte Cristo Melt

The Monte Cristo Melt takes the everyday grilled cheese to new heights. Slices of turkey, ham and Swiss cheese are layered between whole-grain bread, then soaked in a seasoned egg mixture. When cooked, the exterior turns golden and crisp while the interior becomes melty and flavourful.
Ingredients
- 2 eggs
- 1 tbsp (15 mL) milk (1%)
- Freshly ground pepper, to taste
- 2 slices whole-grain bread
- 1 tsp (5 mL) prepared mustard
- 1 slice deli turkey
- 1 slice deli ham
- 1 thin slice Swiss cheese
Instructions
- Step 1
Whisk eggs, milk and pepper in bowl; set aside.
- Step 2
Spread one side of bread slice with mustard. Place slices of turkey and ham on bread. Top with cheese and remaining slice of bread.
- Step 3
Soak sandwich in egg mixture until mixture is absorbed, about 2 minutes on each side.
- Step 4
Spray small non-stick skillet with cooking spray. Heat skillet over medium heat.
- Step 5
Place sandwich in skillet and lower heat to medium-low. Cook until bread is golden brown and cheese melts, about 2 minutes on each side.
